The first independent Blues-room based Blues Competition!

A chance for Blues dancers to take part in, and be part of, a weekend
of
Blues-focused challenges –where your peers are your judges! With seven
categories, there is something for everyone –and if competing is not
your thing, as part of the audience YOU have responsibility for deciding
who makes it through the preliminary rounds and gets put before the
panel of well-respected Blues-room dancers who will be judging the
semi’s and the finals…
The 'Crystal Blues Challenge' is
transparently clear. As Blues dancing is not a performance dance,
dancers are not required to perform to judges – just dance as the music
inspires you on an intimate Blues-room floor. Everyone attending is
given their voting chips and information about things to look for while
watching (musicality, interpretation, style, aesthetics, etc). After
each round you cast your vote and the highest scoring couples make it
through to the next stage. When the audience has decided who they would
like to be placed before the panel, the panel will use the same
criteria to score the semis and ultimately the finals. Simples! No
more wondering if the judges were watching the same competition as you…
Although
the event itself will be spread over the entire weekend, the challenges
will take place over two days, with a variety of categories to choose
from. You can choose to enter any number of categories, either all in
one day, or spread over both. And of course during both days there will
be vast amounts of freestyle time, so as a spectator you will get
plenty of dance-floor time too.

Gritty Blues – No dips, no
drops, no lifts, just pure, expressive, musical blues dancing. Get
creative!
All-comers – for the big boys and girls… prepared to
take on anyone and everyone!
Showcase – Choose your music, create
your performance - deliver it to your peers.
Beat-up Blues (over
45’s) – For those of you just a little over-the-hill and not happy
playing with the youngsters…!
All the winners from each category
will take part in the Finale during the evening freestyle – you won, you
choose the music, you own the floor!

Winners of every
major category will receive automatic and FREE entry to the National
Blues Championships to be held in June 2011, including accommodation!
Trophies
for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category, with further prizes to be
announced.
Music throughout the weekend will be provided by a
variety of very well-respected Blues DJs so you can expect the best
authentic Blues-room music.
There is a range of accommodation
available very near to the venue and it varies in price so if you choose
to make a weekend of it, you can choose your hotel according to your

Hot and cold food will be available at the venue throughout
Saturday and Sunday – from early morning bacon rolls to late night
snacks. A full and reasonably priced bar is also available, as well as
free water. Do feel free to bring your own soft drinks if you prefer,
but be aware that licensing laws prevent you from bringing your own
alcohol.
A supplier of men's dance trousers and Kelly Marie's
Dance Wear will be on site all weekend with a selection of shoes and
dance wear for sale. A Portrait photographer will also be on hand
should you require a memento of the occasion. The weekend will be
filmed and photographed for a DVD, available to order as a reminder of
the event.
